About Us

GGCAST History

The Municipality of Governor Generoso has long envisioned an empowered and progressive community where education opens doors to endless possibilities. Under the leadership of Mayor Jerry V. Dela Cerna, this vision took shape through initiatives like hiring para-teachers and the Oplan Kaalam Scholarship Program, which supported underprivileged but deserving students. However, the financial hardships of many families revealed the urgent need for a local tertiary institution. In March 2007, this dream began to unfold. Mayor Dela Cerna led a team on an educational trip to institutions, such as Central Mindanao University and Kapalong College of Arts, Sciences, and Technology (KCAST).

Inspired by their success, he acted swiftly, forming an Ad hoc Committee through Executive Order No. 02, series of 2007, to lead the project. Consultations with CHED officials, including a multisectoral public hearing on March 9, 2007, solidified community and institutional support for the initiative. On March 10, 2007, the Sangguniang Bayan passed Resolution No. 47 and Municipal Ordinance No. 04, officially establishing the Governor Generoso Institute of Arts and Sciences (GGIAS). Stakeholders, including local leaders, educators, and civil society representatives, collaborated through regular meetings to plan and implement the institution’s development. A ceremonial groundbreaking followed, symbolizing the realization of a long-held dream. Recognizing the school’s growing vision and purpose, the Board of Trustees later decided to rename it.

On July 12, 2007, through Board Resolution No. 3, the institution became known as the Governor Generoso College of Arts, Sciences, and Technology (GGCAST). Fully supported by the local government, GGCAST now stands as a cornerstone of education, providing hope and opportunity to the youth of Governor Generoso. From a dream to reality, GGCAST is more than an institution—it is a testament to the collective effort, resilience, and commitment of a community striving to uplift lives through education.
